Happy New Year.

Happy New Year, I hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year break.

I worked through December so it was a bit of a weird time as most of the friends fly back in from the four corners of the earth and so a lot of catching up with them which is always great.

Over the last couple of weeks and especially since my last visit to my room at my parents place I’ve had a few moments when I’ve come across some toys I used to play with or comics I used to read. It’s funny now when I look back at those things and for me at least I can see the reasons why I gravitated to certain toys or comics, those things I can see are the beginnings of interests that I still have now.

I went to see the new Aquaman movie over the Christmas break and it’s been one that I feel like I’ve been waiting for since I was a kid. To say it feels like my favorite Superhero is finally getting his well overdue turn in the spot light, is not an over exaggeration.

Aquaman was the first Superhero I was drawn to and I had the comics and a figurine. I can still remember watching the cartoons. I mean the dude gets to the best of both worlds being in Atlantis and then also on land, lives in Lycra, has a trident with magical powers, can breathe under water, can swim super fast and then he gets bonus points on land with his superhuman strength, enhanced senses, and nearly impenetrable skin.

So why has it taken so long for him?

I remember as a kid proudly playing with my Aquaman figurines whilst my brother and all the other kids were playing with their Batman, Robin, Superman or Spiderman figurines. I’m not sure whether it was the fact that Aquaman’s many incarnations and changing story lines over the years that I slowly migrated towards Spiderman.

If you want to see the what I mean about Aquaman’s incarnations here is the Aquaman episode by Kya Quinn from the Yellow Spandex You Tube Series.

So back to the what for me at least is Aquaman finally finding his rightful place and what I think seems to the natural progression or modern update to the Aquaman that I grew up with.

I certainly was won over by the end of the movie and the costumes were right and whilst I do own a Spiderman costume and have worn a skin tight Lycra Flash costume to a Friends Super Hero party I am now on the hunt to for a good quality reproduction Aquaman’s costume and then I’ll either be throwing a Super Hero party or going to find me nearest Comic Con to be able to wear it.
